CREATING A GIF WITH TWEENS, TEXT, AND PHOTOS IN THE WICK EDITOR APP

A GIF Is Just an Animated Image: In its simplest form, a GIF (pronounced “gif” or “jiff”) is just an image file. Like the JPEG or PNG file formats, the GIF format can be used to make still images. But the GIF format has a special feature—it can also be used to create animated images like the one below. It might be easiest to think of a GIF as a tiny movie that plays over and over in your web browser.

Here's my example:
I created this for my daughter. She has a make-up tutorial account on Instagram.

You are going to create a GIF that is the perfect size for social media, such as Instagram.

Here's a Video Tutorial. Watch the tutorial and follow the steps. I have also listed the instructions Step by Step below.



Requirements:

  1. Photo of person (can be someone you know, yourself, or someone famous)Photo must be straight view, no side profiles
  2. Eyes must be open
  3. 2 sets of Moving Text using the TWEEN effect in the Wick editor app
  4. the Eyes will have a layer with ROTATING GALAXY using the TWEEN effect in the Wick editor app
  5. DUE: Tues., 10/25 by End of Block
  6. Minor Grade

Instructions:

PART 1:
  1. Using photographs, gifs, graphics, texts, and video, you will create a hypnotic GIF
  2. Google Search the following Assets:
    • Face with striking eyes
    • You can use a photo you have taken yourself or from the internet
    • selfie
    • someone you know
    • celebrity/someone famous
    • Good search words “Celebrity portraits”
    • It's better to use a full face image so you can crop it correctly for your final animation
    • Make sure the face is facing forward completely, if it is turned it will be more work for you
    • Photo can be color or black and white
    • RIGHT CLICK > SAVE IMAGE AS and it will DOWNLOAD
  3. Create a folder labeled “Hypnotic Assets” and save all your images there
  4. IMAGE Search words “hypnotic swirl GIF”
    1. “Hypnotic Swirl” GIF
    2. Make sure the GIF spins
    3. RIGHT CLICK > SAVE IMAGE AS and DOWNLOAD into Hypnotic Assets folder
  5. IMAGE Search words "Circular Galaxy"
    1. JPEG
    2. A circular galaxy will work best with this project
    3. RIGHT CLICK > SAVE IMAGE AS and DOWNLOAD into Hypnotic Assets folder
PART 2:
  1. Go to PHOTOPEA.com
    1. Create a NEW file
    2. Name: FirstName_HypnoticAssets
    3. Size 540 H x 540 W
    4. 72 dpi
    5. Transparent background color
  2. File > OPEN your Face Image
  3. Copy and Paste it into your “FirstName_HypnoticAssets”
  4. Make sure your layer is unlocked
  5. Resize the image to fit the screen
    1. HOLD SHIFT KEY - when you are resizing so you don’t distort the image
  6. Adjust any color or effects on the image
  7. EXPORT as JPEG and DOWNLOAD into Hypnotic Assets folder
  8. SAVE as PSD in case you need to adjust this file later
PART 3:
  1. File > OPEN > Galaxy Image
  2. Using the ELLIPSE tool > HOLD SHIFT KEY > Select what part of the galaxy you will be using
  3. SELECT > MODIFY > FEATHER > i chose 10
  4. SELECT > INVERSE > Ctrl + X (or Delete)
  5. Using the ELLIPSE tool > HOLD SHIFT KEY > Select a small circle center in your galaxy, this is where the pupil of your eyes will go
  6. SELECT > MODIFY > FEATHER > i chose 4
  7. Ctrl + X (or Delete)
  8. Move your circle image galaxy to the center of the screen
  9. Crop a square around the image but don't touch the edges of the image
  10. CLICK > Check mark
  11. EXPORT as PNG (label: GalazyCircle) and DOWNLOAD into Hypnotic Assets folder
PART 4:
  1. Go to the WICK EDITOR APP
    • NEW
    • Go to EDITOR SETTINGS
    • Name your project: FirstName_HypnoticEyes
      • Change Size to 540 x 540
      • 12 Frames per Second (FPS) > click APPLY
  2. First Layer 1 > rename: FACE
    • Drag frame to 60
  3. Upload Asset: FACE/EYE background
    • Resize to fit screen
  4. Create NEW LAYER > Name: LEFT EYE
    • Move layer on top of the face layer
  5. Upload Asset: Circle Galaxy PNG
  6. Create a new frame in your layer
    • Drag frame to 60
  7. Select Cursor > Select Galaxy image
    • Resize galaxy to cover the left eye
    • You can change the transparency if you’d like to blend it with the eye
  8. Go to the beginning of frame
    • CLICK > TWEEN option
  9. Go to end of frame
    • CLICK > TWEEN option
  10. Click first dot on frame
  11. Go to INSPECTOR TWEEN panel
    • Type 2 in the Full Rotation Box
  12. Click LAST dot on frame
    • Go to INSPECTOR TWEEN panel
    • Type 2 in the Full Rotation Box
  13. Create NEW LAYER > Label RIGHT EYE
    • Repeat same as before
  14. Create NEW LAYER > Label SWIRL
    • MOVE LAYER to be in between the EYES and the FACE layer (behind both galaxies)
  15. Upload Swirl GIF Asset
  16. Add frame to this layer > Drag to 25 frame
  17. Drag GIF to this frame
  18. Resize Image to fill the screen (hold SHIFT key to not distort image)
  19. Change OPACITY so you can see the images below - I set my opacity to 11
  20. NEW LAYER > Label: TEXT 1
  21. CLICK > Text Tool
  22. Type your text, change color, change font
  23. Using the TWEENING effect, create animated text that runs the entire length of your video
  24. Bring Layer to the top of all the layers
  25. NEW LAYER > Label: TEXT 2
  26. CLICK > Text Tool
  27. Type your text, change color, change font
  28. Using the TWEENING effect, create animated text that runs the entire length of your video
  29. Check your video preview, adjust anything you need to adjust
  30. When complete:
    • SAVE your file and upload to Google Drive
    • EXPORT > as GIF > Post to the Google Classroom Assignment
